Have you never had the courage to get a spray tan? What was it? We all yearn for that perfect, bronzed, glow. As human beings, we are all scared of the unknown. Walking into a room with someone you just met and knowing you’ll be almost naked can be unnerving. I’ve personally found that people are more worried by the possibility of being “orange”. Now that is a whole different conversation all together.
Usually when people have this fear of the unknown, they tend to ask a lot of questions ( which is by no means a negative in any way; please ask every question possible and we will answer them all for you ) and always end up apologizing for these inquiries. It is completely normal to be nervous about the process, but hopefully this walkthrough will make it easier!
The first thing we will ask you is “Would you like Light, Medium or Dark?” This question is a lot, I know. It is a little difficult to describe the differences between these three, only because light on one person won’t look the same on another because of skin tone and type. So here is the best way I can describe it:
Light: A subtle glow / an evening out of the skin tone. Great for those who are really nervous about being “too dark”.
Medium: A noticeable tan. People will look at you and think “They tan beautifully!” Most choose this for weddings, vacations, and other special events.
Dark: The equivalent of spending a week in the caribbean. If you are prone to burning, think of the redness turned into a rich bronze. Recommended for those who want to be… well dark.
Extra Dark: Those who choose this are very familiar with the idea of spray tanning and know how dark they want to be.
If the first question isn’t hard enough, we have more. Just one more so don’t worry about it too much. “Would you like the 8 Hour/Overnight option or the EXPRESS?”
The 8 Hour and the Express both last 7-10 days and have the same look overall. Unless you’re looking to be Extra Dark then we have an 8 hour solution that will work best to get the desired result. One doesn’t look better than the other, it’s just about convenience and when you would like to shower.
8 Hour/Overnight: the soonest you can rinse off is 8 hours from the time you get sprayed or you may leave it on overnight.
Express: depending on how light or dark you would like to be is when you will rinse off. Light = 1 hour ; Medium = 2-3 hours ; Dark = 4 hours.
Once we get those questions out of the way then we can get started!!
Once in the spray tan room, we will instruct you on where to place your stuff as well as the location of the disposable underwear and hairnet. You may get undressed to however makes you feel most comfortable. Whether it’s fully nude, bottoms only, top & bottoms, whatever is fine with us. We then supply you with a pair of Stick Feet, which are cardboard cutouts of feet with sticky tabs on them. After you get undressed, you step onto them and they stick to your feet, making sure your feet don’t get dirty with any possible leftover spray tan on the floor. As you get undressed we leave the room and get the appropriate solution that fits your needs.
Now before we get to the actual spray, there are a couple of things we need to do first. First and foremost is the Barrier Cream. The Barrier Cream is applied to the palms, nails, toenails, knees, and elbows. The tan will still show on your knees and elbows but it is a lighter application. These areas of the body tend to be dryer than the rest so we want to keep them from getting darker than the rest of your body.
Next we spray your body with a PH balancing spray. More can be found on this spray and what it does here.
Now it’s time for the actual spray tan. If you would like to see how we do it you can view our YouTube channel here!
We start on the front of your body, moving to the back, then the sides and arms. Depending on the level of lightness and darkness you choose we will either do 1 or 2 coats of solution. After that we move onto the hands, feet, neck, and face with just one coat.
In order to prevent the post spray tan wetness, we like to dust a matte or shimmer powder over the body to somewhat set the tan in place. Once set, we take a baby wipe and wipe down your nails, toenails, and palms. Not only to save your manicure but to also prevent the dreaded tanned palms. We then leave the room and let you stand in front of our fan for 30 – 45 seconds then you are all set to put your clothes back on. Just remember bring long, loose clothing. I recommend loose sweatpants and a loose long sleeve t-shirt. You want to avoid skin on skin contact from the time you are sprayed until your first shower. Please keep that in mind in your pretty summer dresses. As well as please no tight yoga pants and absolutely no jeans.
